Today Bill informed be that during the first half of his first game Henri was not keeping up with play on a U15B game. At one point the keeper took a cleat to the stomach and no foul was even called. Bill said it should have been misconduct. In the future perhaps nothing more than U13 for Henri

Sergio was a no-call no show today for his first of four games. I called and he did not answer. He then got on Assignr and turned back the other three games. Sergio had been doing well up until this point of the season

FROM CENTER REFEREE ON HIS GAME - AR2 had trouble calling fouls. Did not know where to stand for. PK.

Yancarlo Palma came really late to the game 2-4 minutes to start time. He was AR1 and in the second half people were waiting to get into the game but he was not raising his flag. It seemed like he did not want to be at the game because he was not calling much in the 2nd half.

Got this note from here center:

During the game AR2 did not call fouls that happened right in front of them. I do believe this escalated the game more than it should have. Suggest this AR receive additional mentoring on foul calls.

At the lightning delay both coaches were arguing with eachother and when I focused on the northern coach one of his players went to the AYSO side and supposedly stated to a AYSO player that they were going to beat them up. This was only heard by the AYSO coach but Northern had a camera set up right there. Ask to see video.

Turnbacked her game at the last minute over the phone

I was trying to get him to accept his games and at the last minute sent me an email he was turning back 5 games because he has pnemoina. He is also a new referee

From Mike Flemming: Jason Bowers desperately needs AR mentoring on all things AR. Positioning, signals, hand position, offsides, fouls. ARs do not call advantage. How to do PKs. You name it, he needs it.

Emmalyn no called no show on her games. When I called her she said she was going to the United game and that her mother was suppose to turnback the games.

At 8:48 a.m. Center came up to the referee shack and reported Carlos was not on his field. I called him and he said he was pulling up. He also did not accept his assignments.

Sergio was late to his 9 a.m. game. Center called up at 8:58 and indicated he was going to start it. I called him and he said he was pulling up to the parking lot

At 8:57 a.m. your center referee called to the ref shack indicating you were not present for your game at 9 a.m. on field 14S. I tried calling the phone number on file and it went straight to voicemail. I am not sure when you showed up for the match. Can you please provide and explanation. 

At kickoff time, field Marshalls called up to the referee shack indicating Dax was not present for your 9 a.m. game on field 8. I called and did not recieve an answer

But, I have been calling, texting, emailing you the entire day today and Thursday as well trying to get you to accept your games. You have ignored my attempt to contact you. and then you turnback three high-level centers at the last minute - 11:29 p.m. before kickoff.

I take this seriously and want to explain what happened. I did notice someone I knew on the sideline and briefly acknowledged them, but I understand how that could have looked unprofessional. I will make sure to stay fully focused on the field going forward.

I also checked my phone briefly during a stoppage in play, but I understand that this was not appropriate and it will not happen again.

If my uniform or behavior did not meet expectations, I apologize. I will make sure I am dressed correctly and conduct myself in a more professional way at all times.

I appreciate the opportunity to referee and I want to do a good job. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, and I will work to improve.

I appreciate the update however I did attend and complete an in-person ref class. I'm not sure if it's not showing up or if this was just meant for Anthony but I completed the session on January 31st at Kramer fields.

I assigned Emmanuel a COED Momentum game today and it was disastrous. Due to a scheduling mistake he was accidently put on a COED' final and should have been pout in the middle for a men's consolation. He kept missing his ARs off-side calls. He missed an obvious DOGO. And, players were cussing at each others and he was not addressing it. At half time I met with the crew. I got the sense that he really didn;t know what a DOGSO was. He could name any of the considerations. His AR Dave Gatterman, indicated he felt it was a DOGSO. I also advised him to talk with the teams before half because he was losing control of the game. He needs further mentoring before taking on a game at this level

I granted both of you that waiver and I noticed you did not take the class this winter when it was offered.
I don't mind putting you both on games. I just need to know why you could not take the class and if you are committed to taking it this summer. There will be 5 opportunities.

I wanted to keep you in the loop regarding three reported situations this season involving referee Trevor Howell at the facility. Each report was submitted by a different youth coach.

There were two incidents of mild unprofessional conduct in which Trevor involved himself in arguments with coaches. In both cases, the coaches described his behavior as having an “attitude” and being “disrespectful,” beyond what would be considered typical referee behavior.

The most serious incident occurred last Sunday. Following a match, Trevor became annoyed with a coach (who does have a history of being intense). After the game, Trevor responded to a comment about his refereeing performance by directly calling the coach a “fat ass” in front of children and parents. Trevor has admitted to this incident on two separate occasions.

As a result, I have informed Trevor that any further incidents of this nature will result in his permanent removal from The Shop’s referee schedule.

The youth teams where coaches requested Trevor off their games:
-Blue Devils/Archangels 2014 girls -coach Cassandra Wolfram
-Ajax 2013 boys- coach Angela Sandoval-Shafer
-Ayso 2016G/ Old Raptors 2016girls/men’s bronze team- coach/ player Enrique Torrez (personal insult situation)

Given that all three situations occurred during youth league matches, Alvaro and I agree that Trevor is not currently suitable to officiate youth leagues. Moving forward, Trevor will only be assigned to adult coed games at The Shop on Thursday and Friday nights. Additionally, all three coaches involved have requested that he not be assigned to their game schedules, and Trevor also participates in the men’s league.

I have received a lot of negative feedback about his performance I inability to pay attention. It has been an ongoing issue. That prompted me to send an email to him and his parents. They then informed me that he has a disability - ADHD. I want to keep on working on him. I believe he can be a good referree

I had received feedback from officials and mentors that he was on his phone durring a match. I sent the following email to him and never heard back. Therefore I am not assigning him any games

We were told by numerous sources:

"Had a friend or someone on the sideline and was not fully engaged"

"Ref was on his phone a good portion of the game. "

"Ref also did not have long socks on and wore a white hat with a logo."

"Ref was joking with his friend the whole time doing stuff like putting his hat over his eyes and pretending to be blind and turning his back directly towards the field."

"He did not hold his flag properly or hold himself in a professional manner."

Before I decide how to proceed, I would like to hear from you. Until I hear from you, I am temporarily removing you from the referee pool.

I received the following feedback and response in reference to a game that occurred at the Gaylord Shepperd.

Gentlemen,

I wanted to bring to your attention a serious concern regarding the behavior of one of the referees during The Gaylord Sheppard Tournament Sunday 11/9 Game #95. During the match, there was a collision between two players that resulted in a head injury at midfield. The referee allowed the play to continue prompting myself and assistant coach to yell at the referee to stop the game as our player laid motionless. The referee yelled back “shut up” at us coaches on the sideline loud enough for every parent, player and spectator to hear — something that I feel is completely inappropriate and unprofessional. Furthermore we responded that it’s a head injury and his response was “I don’t care”. Referees are expected to manage the game calmly and with authority, not hostility. Telling coaches to “shut up” undermines respect for officials and sets the wrong example for players and spectators. Additionally, myself nor my assistant were allowed on the field to check on my player. Instead he ushered him off, never checking on the player and told him he had to leave because "your coach said it's a head injury". Then with a demeaning tone told the AR “ he can’t come back on until he is cleared by an athletic trainer because they are saying it’s a head injury”.

Equally important, I want to emphasize the need for referees to prioritize player safety above all else. The tone and focus of officiating should reflect that priority — ensuring dangerous play is addressed immediately and consistently. When the focus shifts to confrontations with coaches or sideline management, it takes away from the referee’s most important responsibility: protecting the players on the field. As a Paramedic with over 15 years of experience it is extremely disheartening that this Referee had so little care for an 11 year old and their possible head injury.

I’m not raising this to criticize for the sake of it, but because player safety matters. Coaches, referees, and players all play a role in creating a positive and secure environment, and incidents like this run counter to that goal.

I would appreciate it if this matter could be reviewed and addressed to prevent similar situations in the future. I have attached a 1 minute video with audio for you to watch so you don't have to take my word for it.

I did run and issue a yellow and tell him to shut up because of his continued verbal abuse towards me. He is correct, me yelling at him was unprofessional and I shouldn't have done it.

You should ask Bo Song if he saw a head injury during this collision. As well as the AR2 on this match. Just cause there is a collision of two players does not give any coach the right to scream at the top of his lungs to stop the match. Was there any follow up with the trainer on-site for this head injury. Or was it just an over reaction on his part and totally justified?
The player also was standing up immediately after the collision and I saw no need to bring the coach onto the field. They did not hit heads on the collision. It was simply a collision. A hard one at that. No blood, no broken bones and no reason for his reaction.

His verbal confrontations started when he felt the need to yell at me for speaking to a player who was waving his finger at both Bo and I about not being offside. He did this twice and we were trying to educate him on dissent. Needless to say the coach felt the need to yell at me for "antagonizing a player in his words.

You should also ask for video footage from the first match of the day. I had to address him and his assistant coach for continually screaming at Bo Song for correct calls. In the second minute of the match, there was a clear handball. The AR2 raised his flag and Bo blew his whistle. Both coaches felt the need to scream out that wanted advantage. It was close to midfield and yards away from AR2. When I asked him to stop yelling he proceeded to yell at me that he had justification for his behaviour based on previous matches Bo had Centered for him. There were several other incidents of him yelling "Referee". You should ask for the film tape and as well as the complete video on my match. Both coaches feel they are justified in screaming at referees.

These coaches think that they can scream and yell for every little incident on the field that they don't like and are exempt from any recourse. Their continued yelling and screaming during both matches does not allow referees to concentrate on the task at hand, as he so wants referees to do in his email. If he wants referees to concentrate more on the task at hand of managing the field and players, maybe he should quiet down and let us do that. Both coaches' behaviour of yelling and screaming throughout the matches is unprofessional and not in the spirit of the matches being played.

My performance as a Center Referee on this match was spot on. Down to the DOGSO red card on the Rapids keeper. You should ask him for that footage of his parents yelling screaming that is wasn't a DOGSO.

It was a long high school season where for the most part coaches were not an issue, but they are Professional Coaches who take their jobs seriously and understand the partnership between Referees and Coaches.

The behaviour of coaches all day Sunday was shocking to me and not just on Field 7. I could hear it coming from Field 8 also. The level of referee verbal abuse that goes unpunished is the worst I have ever seen at Duke City/Bernalillo. Something has to change! Including how I dealt with these coaches. The level of disrespect is appalling.

Sorry about this issue during this match. My intention is not to be a pain in your butt. Maybe I should not referee this weekend where there will be inexperienced unprofessional coaches on the pitch.
