Flynn was completely focused on the game, but would lose attention on the offside line to prioritize watching play. He would get caught watching for other things that he wouldn't notice the offside line moved, and he would have to catch up.

The two offside decisions he needed to signal, I had to talk over his shoulder to put up the flag. We talked through the situation afterwards, and I explained what we were looking for that resulted in the player needing to be penalized for offside.

Flynn was confused at first about how to signal a throw in... his understanding was to point at the team that was awareded the throw in instead of the direction the team was attacking... All in all, his decisions were correct, but signals crossed referee's signal. We got to the bottom of the issue, but he had a hard time breaking his habit.

Flynn definitely needs some more practice and experience. I would suggest an 11/12 girls game that has just a slightly slower pace until he can speed up his thought processes. He was 100% focused on the game and he worked hard. He just needs to see more game situations (especially with offside) so he can process what he is seeing more quickly. He benefited from having a referee that needed little support, and was quick to make decisions before Flynn could decide what he wanted to signal. His confusion on throw in signaling caused many crossed signals with referee, but hopefully that is a habit he can break quickly.
