Good job staying with play throughout the game. Good work rate finding angles to see play. We talked about positioning on goal kicks and keeper punts. As you look towards the goalkeeper, you should generally be on the right side. As you then turn to follow play towards the opposite goal, you will be on the left side of play. Adjust your depth to the anticipated length of kick so you are looking into the drop zone from the side. Avoid being central in these situations as you are more likely to be in the actual drop zone and thus interfere with the ball or players.

In the 55' Vamos had a breakaway attack on goal. The GSA defender fouled the Vamos attacker in the penalty area, and you correctly awarded a penalty kick. This situation also met the requirements for Denial of a Goal Scoring Opportunity (DOGSO-F). Since a penalty kick was awarded, issuing a yellow card would otherwise be appropriate in this situation. We talked about this after the match and I agreed with your observation that given the atmosphere of the match (players' age, start of season, level of play) a card was not warranted. As you do higher level games it will be imperative to properly identify misconduct and appropriately sanction it.

Referee team interaction was good. An example of this was in the 15' when you started to turn and run up field. You looked back at AR2 who signaled the ball had gone into touch. You then awarded the correct throw-in.

Good mechanics and signaling. Remember that a whistle is generally required when calling for substitutions (2 short blasts) and to restart play after the substitutions are complete. A whistle is also required to restart after stopping for an injury.

The referee presented a professional appearance.

Christian - Very nice performance during this match. The game was well within your ability level. Your communication with the players was good and I heard you talking to them multiple times. Do remember to look for substitutions at every stoppage. There was low-level frustration from the coaches who were regularly and repeatedly having to yell towards the field to have the substitutions recognized. Consider asking both ARs during your pre-game to help you with this by giving you the appropriate signal when substitutes are ready. We also discussed injury stoppages and inviting the coach onto the field. Recognize these as critical times for potentially negative interactions with the coach. Once you beckon the coach onto the field, start moving away to avoid the possibility of confrontation. You also had a very good application of advantage. In the 26' there was a handball by a GSA player just past the halfway line and the Vamos coaches where loudly yelling for the foul to be called. You saw the developing attack and properly applied advantage which led to a near successful shot on goal for Vamos. Thank you again for being a referee and I hope to see you more this season.

TJ - I'm very comfortable with Christian centering games at this level. I also think you could try assigning him to a full field match.
