Very good improvement throughout the day. Keep working to find and maintain your position along the offside line. We talked about the importance of being in the correct position for goal line decisions. Getting to the corner to make your goal kick and corner kick signals helps reinforce proper positioning. Work to keep the flag in the correct hand - facing the referee.

Get a good pair of long black socks that don't fall down and strive to keep your jersey tucked into your shorts. Coaches, players, and spectators immediately judge us as soon as we arrive at the field. Good professional appearance is our first step in gaining respect and rapport at the field. We also discussed getting a watch to help keep time. A basic digital watch is all you need.

Joaquin - We did three games together and you made terrific improvement throughout the day. During your 1:30 game you were assisting a new center referee on their first game. That referee looked to you for more help than might be typical with a more experienced referee. You handled that challenge well and helped make that game a success. Remember to pull up your socks and tuck in your jersey and keep working on the points we discussed. Thanks for being a referee and I look forward to seeing you more this season.

Comments for the Assignor
Joaquin struggled early in our time together. We then spent a lot of time talking about engagement and the reasons for what we do (how we carry the flag, positioning, etc.) and I thought he made great improvement throughout the day. Most notably was in the 1:30 game when he was AR for Zuheir Darugar on his first center. Zuheir looked for a high level of assistance from Joaquin, and I thought he did a surprisingly good job in that environment. He still needs to improve his appearance - his socks were consistently down, and jersey untucked. Given the prior challenges, I recommend Joaquin for another mentor game, but if he can show consistently what he was doing towards the end of our day together, he should advance.
