Remember it's okay to wait a few moments before signaling to make sure you get the call right. I know you know which team kicked it out, but sometimes it takes time to get that through your brain and signal the proper direction. You can slow down when signaling.

Comments for the Mentee
Remember on penalty kicks which are saved, to remain facing the field so that you don't miss anything happening in front of you the penalty area. This is where all the action will be for the next few seconds. This is where you need to make sure you stay with the second to last defender. You can backpedal until you get back to the touch line, but don't feel bad about being on the field longer than you think. You are a referee; never feel like you have to stay on the touchline only.

Sean showed significant improvement in the three games I mentored him. He is coachable and seems to enjoy refereeing. He lacks confidence and clear signaling, but I think this will come with time. I do think being mentored often will help him recall more things and show quick improvements, but don't necessarily think he needs to be officially mentored every week.
