Oliver, you did a nice job side-stepping and staying with the offside line. Keep improving and keep up the good work. Follow the ball towards the goal line and try to make the goal kick or corner kick signal within a yard of the corner flag. This is good practice as it will help you be in the correct position if there is a ball that quickly goes into the goal and then come out. We discussed how the AR should signal a goal, both in this case and when it's more obvious.

Rember to hold the flag as a straight extension of your arm. Extending your index finger along the handle may help. Don't bend your elbow or wrist. Keep working on making eye contact with the referee before signaling. This will help avoid the referee and AR making conflicting signals.

Get a pair of long black socks to wear during games. Two-stripe referee socks would be preferred but are not required. You will want the two-stripe socks when you start doing more advanced games.
Comments for the Mentee
Oliver - overall a nice job. Although it didn't occur on your end of the field. We discussed proper positioning of the AR during a penalty kick (at the intersection of the goal line and penalty area line.) We also discussed that when penalty kicks are done as a tiebreaker the AR moves instead to the intersection of the goal line and the goal area line. We also discussed the correct substitution signal (flag handle between both hands, over the head, with the wind blowing through it). The substitution signal is only needed until the referee acknowledges it.
