Positioning/Movement Comments
I suggested to John that he would benefit from being closer to play in some instances. In particular when a defender has control of the ball in the Referee's quadrant. As discussed, there were moments when I would have liked to see the distance from play reduced by half -- say, 15 yards instead of 30. This observation was made in the first half, and John seemed to position himself closer to play in the 2nd half.
Decision Making/Rules Application:

Decision Making/Rules Application: Comments
By in large, John's decision making and application of the rules appeared sound from what I was.
One exception occurred in the 40' when a foul committed by the blue player (SV Storm) resulted in a free kick approximately 30 yards away from goal. The foul was light as far as the contact went, but I considered it to have tactical considerations (i.e. SPA - Stopping a Promising Attack). No defenders were back behind the ball at the moment of contact, and only a few were even with the ball. I suggested to John that the correct sanction should have been a yellow card for UB-SPA for that situation in addition to the free kick.
John's selection of fouls appeared to be reasonable to age and ability of the players.

Interaction with Team
1 = Good
Interaction with Team Comments
John spoke with players as needed.
I suggested to John that he make more consistent check to the officials area (or AR1) to see if substitutions we up and ready. There tended to be several moments in the match when these opportunities went unnoticed.

Comments for the Mentee
As we discussed at the field, your foul selection was good and the accuracy of your GK/CK and TI's was also good. Keep doing that.
Work on those things I've outlined in the report -- recognizing SPA, catching substitutions more consistently, closer proximity to play in your corner, etc, -- and I think you'll improve your game overall.

Mentor's Recommendation
Mentee is Good to Center Games
Comments for the Assignor
John has a good feel from the game. I suspect that when he's fresh, he can do better at keeping closer to play. If that holds true, it'll work for him for one center per day on a MLS Next Game.
