During halftime we discussed the importance of enforcing the proper distance during restarts. You did a nice job doing this in the second half during both corner kick and free kick restarts. We later discussed not calling out to the goal keepers before starting the match and second half. Instead, observe the goal keepers and make a determination as to if you think they are ready. You also had a particularly good moment in the 30' when the goalkeeper set the ball like a goal kick during active play after the attacker started to retreat. You properly recognized the ball was still in play allowing the attacking team to challenge for the ball.

Your appearance was good except for carrying your whistle on a neck lanyard. This is also impacting your running style as you are holding the whistle while you run to stop it from swinging. Unlike officials for other sports, soccer referees do not wear their whistle around the neck or run with it in their mouth. We discussed other lanyard types such as those for the wrist or finger that work well for soccer referees. There are also finger grips and flip style grips. These can be reviewed and purchased on most on-line referee stores. You are strongly encouraged to stop using a neck lanyard.

During this match and another where I was present, spectators have come forward to compliment you. This is not always a common occurrence and speaks to what you are doing on the field. Max is good to referee games at this level. However, he is going to need to make improvement efforts to advance. We have had many interactions now, some formal and some informal, and while he is generally polite, he often argues or pushes back on suggestions for improvement. I'm concerned that he is not open to coaching.
