Torin, it was great to meet you and I enjoyed watching you referee. For your very first match you did a great job. You came dressed properly and made a very good first impression as a referee. You looked good like a referee should and you carried yourself very well. Throughout the day you demonstrated good flag mechanics. Your decision-making for goal kick and corner kick restarts was very good. I was impressed with your increasing eye contact with the referee as the day progressed. You looked at him prior to signaling and that is a good habit to have. You also gave the best “good goal” signal of all the ARs I watched over the weekend – running up the touchline. Nicely done. You have a good concept of staying with the 2nd last defender for the possible offside decisions. As we discussed at the end of the day, I encourage you to focus on AR movement as you watch soccer on TV. Focus on AR movement from the top of the penalty area to the goal line: watch them follow the ball (active play) all the way to the goal line. Thank you for your feedback to me. I observed Torin for three matches, back-to-back. He showed up properly dressed and ready to go. His uniform was good. He had black socks on without stripes because his kit was not due to arrive until Monday. He made a very good adjustment. I think Torin was also suffering from first-day jitters. He was fairly quiet throughout the day but fully engaged. He spent the day as AR2 and at one point in the second match some kids were “crowding” his touchline. I kept waiting for an opportunity to provide guidance on how to clear the touchline. In the meantime, a spectator could see what I was up to and he took it upon himself to go down and clear the kids away. That guy robbed Torin of a good lesson, drat all the luck. Torin and I discussed it at halftime, however. Torin gave the best goal signals of the day. As soon as the score was made he ran up the touchline. Great! And finally in the third match Torin got to correctly give an offside signal. Oh, the excitement! His flag mechanics are good and his focus on offside and in/out of play are above average. Torin is another one who arrived well prepared and is ready to go.
