Ref Base – Mentor Evaluations

Evan's movement around the field was appropriate for this game. He was not too far from play from my observations.

Evans signalling and decisions with TIs/CKs/GKs and Fouls/Free kicks were better than average. He seemed to be confident and correct in these judgements.

When substitution were up an waiting to come in the game, Evan could have been more consistent about checking back at his AR1/officials area to verify subs were sought and to initiate the process. Also, in general, I would have preferred that Evan ensured the players were up and ready at the halfway line, instead of 10 yards away from that point, nearer to the bench area, and avoid grant permission in that instance (at least not without indicating that to the coach). This could have been a teaching opportunity for the coach and players about what the correct location and procedure. I also believe it could have avoided the practice of coaches repeatedly calling out for 'subs!'.

Evan talked with players as needed and in an appropriate manner.

After whistling for a foul, Evan would have benefited from showing direction of the free kick quicker. His foul calls were appropriate and the eventual direction of the FK correct, but indicating direction sooner would help him sell the call and improve his perception by the coaches and players.

Evan's uniform was correct.

Evan, I thought you did well with your calls and your on-field decisions in both games. Keep that up!

The area I want you to work on going forward, and what we discussed at the field, involves things happening immediately off the field. In addition to ensuring substitution are done correctly, I'd like you to work on greater awareness of spectators residing outside of their designated area. This is especially important when they are near or behind the goal, or when they are in the officials' area, as was the case with an older bother of a player (assumed) being in the officials area/technical area and providing instructions during the match. Recognizing and dealing with these situations will go a long way to helping you with your game management. It will also allow you to teach coaches' and spectators what is the proper location are, as well as expected procedures and behaviors are.

Evan did well with his on-field decisions and calls. The area I discussed with him and his ARs involved substitution procedure and where coaches should be residing during the match. Also, we talked about a couple things I observes with spectators. One was a parent being near to the goal behind the goal line during match, and another spectator being in the officials area/technical area and providing instructions during the match. Simply put, I wanted Even to play more attention to things occurring just off the field and the dealing with that, in addition to getting the calls correct and managing players in the games.
