Ref Base – Mentor Evaluations

Zubair has several years working as an AR, so it's a natural next step into the middle. He centered the fourth game of the day and he was noticeably and understandably worn out by that point of the day. From that perspective, it was difficult to get a true read on his movement. His positioning was solid and it was obvious that he listened to feedback given to other officials and worked to apply it.

Zubair is a player so he has a solid foundation and understanding of the LOTG. He recognized fouls well. As an AR, there some extremely bad throws in his quadrant that he let go and that was discussed.

Making the transition from player to official can be a challenge, especially when it comes to speaking with the players. As a youth ref, that also can be a challenge. I believe Zubair can add that to his tools.

Sometimes the signalling was a little lackluster, but that easily could have been a function of being tired. It was a long day with five total games.

Shorts were black, but not referee shorts. This was discussed and shorts were in wash. He was advised to buy a second pair. Socks were red and he was advised to buy proper socks.

It's obvious that Aiden has a solid grounding in the game. He understands fouls and restarts. His non-verbal skills noticeably improved throughout the day. I'd like to see him be more authoritative with his whistle and signalling. I would like to have him seen when he is fresh so there can be a better sense of how he positions and moves when he is not wiped out.

Aiden is very bright and accepting of feedback and applies them well. I'd like to see him be mentored when he is fresh so he can give a true representative of his ability. He has a good sense of the game and is able to move where needed. He needs to work on his control with the whistle to give a good blast. He was making good eye contact with ARs and understands the importance of non-verbal communication.
