Ref Base – Video Evaluations

Towards the second half's end, there were a few moments where I was stacked and needed to get wider to see a handling offense and a jersey pull. Early on, I didn't really show a ton of energy - I was very center and far from plays when they were moving toward my AR. I need to close that gap sooner rather than later to sell proximity and angle. It looked like when I could, I stayed in the mid-third of the field unless there was a quick increase in pressure in the play. After the ~20' mark, it appeared that I stayed more proximal to play with better angles. I looked more comfortable following that.

A lot of my decisions were based on the level of the teams - these are EA players and are fine with playing through contact. When I could, I let them play through contact as long as I didn't feel like it was terribly reckless or careless. This can be seen around 9:29 where there is a bit of pushing/grabbing between both teams - very light contact that I might call in DCSL, but not here. I called my first foul at 11:10 because the players indicated they didn't want that contact and it was coming out, so I felt that it would be a good one to give for game management even though it wasn't at my initial foul bar level. No foul call at 12:08, I had contact on ball and the video supports this. I didn't give a handball call around 17:10 because I felt that his arms were natural for his body movement and the time/distance of the ball to him was very small. If i'd removed his arms from the equation, it would hit his head, and cause the same outcome. I had my first caution at 19:48, which I gave for SPA. It set the tone for contact and foul selection for the rest of the match. At ~99:20, I award a foul going in because I had the defender going through the attacker to get a touch on ball. The video supports the defender making contact on the attackers legs prior to touch on ball, thus supporting the CMI decision.

I have nothing to add here. I felt cautions were clear and deliberate and hand signals were appropriate.

I had a few moments throughout the game where team interaction allowed me to either de-escalate a situation or make the correct decision based on previous contact.

At 19:48, #11 black fouls the attacking player as he moves towards the penalty area. I awarded the foul to red with the assistance of AR1, and showed a caution to #11 for stopping a promising attack. The conditions for DOGSO were not met as at the time, the player had another defender who could cover the goal, and the direction of the player when fouled did not show that he would have an OBVIOUS goal scoring opportunity. As such, DOGSO was not met and SPA was then awarded.
