Kaleigh has the fitness, stamina, and ability to stay close to play, and she can further elevate her positioning by anticipating play rather than simply reacting to it. Developing this skill will allow her to stay ahead of the action and be in optimal positions for key decisions.

As she continues to officiate higher-level matches, these will naturally improve, helping her refine movement patterns that keep her engaged, out of the passing lines, and in the best possible position to make accurate calls.

The referee demonstrated a solid understanding of the rules and made well-thought-out decisions throughout the match. There was a brief period at the beginning of the second half where some decisions appeared inconsistent, but she did a good job readjusting and setting her foul threshold effectively as the game progressed.

KMI – 39:15 (Key Match Incident):
A foul inside the penalty area was missed. Upon reviewing the footage, it seems that positioning played a role, as the referee was further from the play in a standing position and may have had a blocked view. While players and coaches understood that this was a scrimmage, in an official match, such moments could impact game control. A key takeaway is to stay closer to play, particularly in the penalty area, to improve decision-making confidence and credibility in critical moments.

Goal Kick Offenses (IFAB Law 16.2 – Offenses and Sanctions):
There’s an opportunity to strengthen the enforcement of goal kick rules. During the game, a player twice challenged for the ball while still inside the penalty area. The referee correctly identified the first instance and addressed it with the player. However, the second occurrence went unnoticed by both the AR and referee, resulting in a goal. In future matches, reinforcing awareness of these situations and applying the correct sanctions will enhance match control and fairness. (Refer to Key Moments for details.)

Excellent mechanics when signaling key decisions such as throw-ins, goal kicks, fouls, and offside calls. Your signals were clear, confident, and well-executed, which is a strong asset to your officiating.

Opportunities for Growth
To further strengthen your presence on the field, consider practicing your signaling when deciding not to call a foul—especially in critical areas like the penalty box or in front of the benches. A clear, confident "no foul" signal helps communicate your decision effectively to players, coaches, and spectators, reducing unnecessary confusion or dissent.

Kaleigh is definitely a strong candidate to start officiating higher-level matches. She has a solid presence on the field and demonstrates a clear interest in developing her refereeing skills. The speed of play in this match seemed to catch her off guard, she was frequently trailing the ball rather than staying ahead of play. This is a common challenge when moving into faster-paced games, and it can be addressed by:

1. Gaining more experience in high-intensity matches.
2. Working on anticipation skills to read the game earlier.
3. Transitioning sooner to find optimal positioning.

Key Match Incidents (KMIs):
In this scrimmage, three KMIs were missed. While this did not have significant consequences in this setting, in a regular season game, coaches may be more vocal about such situations. Continued work on positioning, learning and applying the rules, and game awareness will help reduce these occurrences and enhance game control.

I see great potential in Kaleigh as a referee. She has good mechanics, good game presence, and a clear commitment to improving her officiating skills. Penalty Kick -A foul inside the penalty area was missed. When an attacker is in possession of the ball inside the penalty area, it's crucial for the referee to actively adjust their position to maintain the best possible angle of view. Standing still should only occur when already in an optimal position to make a decision. Otherwise, referees should move dynamically—either closing in on the play or adjusting their angle—to improve their line of sight and ensure accuracy in decision-making. Keep working on reading the play and positioning yourself proactively!
