Ref Base – Video Evaluations

There are many instances where I was reactionary to the movement of the ball and was not close enough to play. Toward the end of the game, I got stuck on multiple occasions in the middle of play; instead of waiting for something to happen with the ball, I should just choose a side to move toward. Good drop zone positioning for throw ins. Had to cheat which side of the field I was on for goal kicks because of the short balls but felt this was appropriate for the level and pattern of the game.

Law changes applied as necessary. There was a drop ball to the dark team's goalkeeper after a head injury; the light team had possession in their attacking penalty area when the ball struck a light player in the face.

Signals are clear and consistent throughout the game. Still adjusting to counting down when the goalkeeper is in possession.

The players were accepting of any explanation they asked for on the field and did not appear particularly frustrated with my decision making. Confusion was easily cleared up using my voice. (Not on camera) I stopped play to allow the dark team's coach to pump up the ball, and the light team's coach was frustrated the ball "wasn't checked" before the game; I should not have allowed play to start with that ball because it was soft the entire time. Would have prevented the stoppage and that interaction, as it set a bad start to the game.
